Characteristics
This Stage 3 Afterburner is our first in .358”, and we are excited about this one! It’s optimized for the 35 Whelen chamber and velocities but equally dynamite in some of the large-cased wildcats in this caliber. In the Whelen, this sets up well with its long freebore design providing ample contact with the case for loading flexibility and reliable function while maximizing precious powder capacity. The nose design ensures repeatable performance at the typically lower impact velocities associated with the Whelen. Furthermore, the weight is balanced just right providing notable heft for deep penetration and strong BC numbers while keeping muzzle velocities up for preferred trajectories, and it's fully functional in a 1:14” or faster. The incredible performance at low impact velocities of the Stage 3 design plays well into the size of this bullet in the Whelen case, maximizing effectiveness, even in the most difficult situations. No longer does the .358” caliber need to sit in the shadows of other more popular calibers both larger and smaller. This bullet brings total performance front and center to .358” caliber!
Like other Stage 3 releases, the loading behavior of this bullet is incredibly forgiving, thus reducing variation and inconsistencies around component selection and seating depth adjustments. This allows the ability to find accuracy nodes with ease and with a variety of combinations.
The terminal performance of this bullet is massive and capable of anything not limited by minimum diameter regulations or scenarios requiring dangerous game solids. The shrapnel damage is extreme and the penetration deep for hard angled shots on big-bodied game, even on heavy bone, while at the same time capable of full deployment on a broadside hit of a smaller animal at 1650 fps impact velocity.
We’ve had a soft spot for the 35s for quite some time and can’t wait to hear success stories from customers on this one!
